We disagree with imposing decisions made elsewhere on Parliament, Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Isn't there terrorism in Balochistan? All the emergencies that have come are on the account of the PPP, JUI-F chief

Who spoke strongly against the army in the past? Who took the name of former Army Chief General Bajwa in rallies?

A unified national policy against terrorism should be formed, political parties should be taken into confidence by calling an in-camera session of Parliament, talking to the media

Lahore: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that this decision should be made by the parliament, who is the supreme? If it is the supreme, then let it decide, decisions should be made elsewhere and imposed on the parliament. We disagree with this, is there terrorism in Balochistan? All the emergencies that have come are in the account of the PPP. A unified national policy against terrorism should be formulated and an in-camera session of the Parliament should be called in this regard and all political parties should be taken into confidence. Without taking the people into confidence, their full participation in the war against terrorism cannot be ensured. I am loyal to the state and appreciate those who have made sacrifices for the country. However, it is my democratic right to disagree with policies. Have I spoken against the army or did Mian Nawaz Sharif himself? I have never criticized institutions but have discussed state policies.

Talking to the media, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the government and state institutions should respect the opinions of political parties and citizens instead of making fun of their sacrifices. We are not making fun of the sacrifices made for the country, but are discussing policies so that they can be reformed. He said that over the past years, 250 scholars and workers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have been martyred in terrorist incidents. Despite these sacrifices, if terrorism is increasing instead of decreasing, then it is necessary to seriously examine the reasons for this.

He raised the question that there are no terrorist incidents in Balochistan? Instead of imposing the policy unilaterally, the policy against terrorism should be formulated in consultation with all political parties. An in-camera session of the Parliament should be called to review the challenges, strategies and results facing the country so that a joint struggle can be waged against terrorism by taking the nation into confidence.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that when a person points a finger at another, the other fingers are also pointing at him. Who spoke strongly against the army in the past? Who took the name of former Army Chief General Bajwa in rallies? He said that I have never criticized military institutions, but have raised questions regarding the country's economy, investment and state policies. Why is there no investment in Pakistan while investment is happening in neighboring countries? Discussing such questions is not anti-nationalism but an attempt at reform. He said that in 2013 too, our differences had come to the fore on the issue of emergency in Balochistan and we had resigned in protest. Adopting constitutional procedures has its place, but it is also important to see whether any measure is consistent with democratic principles. He said that national consensus is necessary for an effective strategy against terrorism and the government should also listen to the suggestions of the opposition. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that a delegation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came to him with a request for mediation, after which the government delegation also contacted him and was formally invited by the Prime Minister. He participated in the negotiation process with the mandate of the opposition and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, where the demands of the parties were revealed and efforts were made to move matters forward. For progress in the negotiations, it is necessary for the parties to recognize the role of an impartial mediator.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Saudi Arabia is a reliable friend of Pakistan and has long-standing relations with it. We condemn the attack on Saudi Arabia and stand with the Saudi leadership and people. We are also with Saudi Arabia on the issue of protecting the Two Holy Mosques. He added that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is also increasing its political activities in Punjab and the participation of the people in the meetings is encouraging. A meeting will be held in Sargodha next month. He said that to address the challenge of terrorism facing the country, a common course of action in the national interest must be adopted, transcending political differences.

PTI government should be restored in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shandana Gulzar

All the disappeared members of the National and Provincial Assembly, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the Speaker should be brought to the fore, such strictness is not seen even during martial law as it is today

Peshawar: Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the Speaker, along with countless members of the National and Provincial Assembly of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, have been arrested, while the Governor's Rule contractors are not taking a clear stand in this regard. Pakistan’s two $67 billion loan programs at risk, World Bank

Political and administrative problems, economic uncertainty, institutional weaknesses are major obstacles to program implementation.

The programs aim to promote economic stability, improve public service delivery, and increase tax collections to 15 percent.

Most of the targets associated with the release of funds, continuous progress in the implementation of the reform program are commendable, report

Washington: The World Bank has described two loan programs worth about $670 million in Pakistan related to tax reforms and digital services as moderately satisfactory, but has also identified risks to their success. According to the World Bank, political and administrative problems, economic uncertainty and institutional weaknesses are major obstacles to the effective implementation of these programs. According to a recent World Bank report, both programs aim to promote economic stability in Pakistan, improve public service delivery and increase the ratio of tax collections to 15 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The report describes the $700 million financial assistance under the Pakistan Public Resources for Inclusive Development (PRID) Program as moderately satisfactory, but the overall risk rating for it is significant. A key goal of this program is to increase the ratio of tax collections from 12.3 percent in June 2025 to 15 percent by June 2030.

According to the World Bank, political and governance risks, economic conditions, institutional capacity, financial discipline, and environmental and social standards issues could affect program implementation. According to the report, an advance of $164.52 million was released under the program on June 29. The World Bank appreciated the significant progress made against most of the targets associated with the release of funds, describing it as a reflection of continued progress in implementing the reform program. The World Bank and the Government of Pakistan are working together to streamline technical assistance arrangements and mitigate the impact of delays in approval processes following changes in the project’s activities and cost allocation.

The report also identified delays in the formation of the Governing Council of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and the appointment of the Chief Statistician. According to the World Bank, the position of Chief Statistician should not remain vacant under the terms of the program and it is not acceptable to temporarily assign this responsibility to a current government official. According to the report, the position has been vacant since September 24, 2026. The World Bank has also rated the $70 million Connected Punjab Program for promoting digital services in Punjab as medium to significant risk due to political, administrative, economic and financial risks. The program is effective from the beginning of the current fiscal year and will continue until June 2031. The bank acknowledged that the program has strong support at the highest level of the Punjab government and the Punjab Information Technology Board has obtained the provincial government’s approval for it.

The primary goals of the program include increasing access to broadband and internet connectivity, improving the delivery of digital services, preparing for the use of artificial intelligence and promoting cashless transactions. According to the World Bank, the next steps of the program include establishing a committee to oversee artificial intelligence, developing a data governance framework, personal information protection and cybersecurity strategies. The World Bank’s Board of Directors approved the PRID.MPA program on December 19, 2025. The program aims to increase domestic revenue through reforms at the federal and provincial levels, improve the quality of government spending, and improve the delivery of public services through the effective use of data and digital technology.
