Gaza Board of Peace. A ray of peace?

Recently, the signing ceremony of the draft of the “Gaza Board of Peace” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, was the center of attention around the world. On this occasion, heads of state of 20 countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Indonesia, Turkey and Morocco signed the charter of the Gaza Board of Peace along with US President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif signed the draft of the Board of Peace on behalf of Pakistan. Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir was also present at the ceremony. US President Donald Trump thanked the leaders who signed the charter, especially Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and appreciated their role for peace. Trump said that today is a memorable day for peace and now Gaza will be rebuilt.

It should be remembered that US President Donald Trump had announced the establishment of the “Gaza Board of Peace” on September 29, 2025, to establish peace in Gaza. The main objectives of the Board include a permanent solution to the Gaza issue, a permanent ceasefire, the reconstruction of Gaza, the establishment of lasting peace and the protection of the rights of the Palestinians, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. In this regard, on November 17 last year, the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution submitted by the United States, which also included the establishment of an “international peacekeeping force” consisting of forces from different countries to establish peace in Gaza. Under the charter of the Board, US President Donald Trump will be the Chairman of the Gaza Peace Board, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other important international figures will be members of the Board.

The establishment of the Peace Board is a significant step towards preventing the massacre in Gaza and protecting the Palestinian people. Pakistan’s participation in the Board highlights its diplomatic importance, which it achieved thanks to its victory in the war and strategic supremacy in the region. Pakistan has been a strong voice in favor of Palestine at the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other international forums and has a clear, principled and unambiguous position on the Palestinian issue. This position is not merely political but is based on moral, religious and humanitarian grounds. Pakistan is among the few countries that have never recognized Israel nor made any compromise on the Palestinian cause.

This is why if Pakistan plays a role of mediator, recommendation or policy-making in the Gaza Peace Board, it will not have to face allegations of dubious intentions or double standards. Therefore, it is beyond understanding for some political parties in Pakistan to criticize Pakistan’s participation in the Gaza Peace Board and reject Pakistan’s participation.

When the board includes Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, Morocco and the UAE, it is a matter of honor for Pakistan to be the first Islamic nuclear country to become a part of the board. If Pakistan were not part of the Peace Board along with other important Islamic countries, it would have created the impression that the Muslims of these countries have left the Palestinian Muslims at the mercy of Israel, and Pakistan’s political and religious parties would have taunted the government for not including Pakistan in the board. India is not among the countries that signed the Peace Board Charter, which is because India fears that if the US Peace Board succeeds in establishing peace in Gaza, then in the future, attempts will be made to resolve the Kashmir issue in the same way.

The biggest tragedy of Gaza is not only the Israeli bombing and the genocide of Palestinians, but also the division of the Muslim world. Pakistan, which is not part of any Arab bloc, can play the role of a bridge between other Islamic countries as a neutral Islamic state. Pakistan’s presence in the Gaza Peace Board can be a symbol of the unity that the Muslim Ummah desperately needs. In this regard, Pakistan can emerge as an effective voice at the diplomatic level by playing an important role in the Peace Board. In this context, Pakistan can increase global pressure for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, guaranteeing safe aid routes for Palestinians, and demanding an independent investigation into Israeli war crimes.

Israel, which occupies more than half of the Gaza Strip, maintains that it will withdraw from Gaza only when Hamas disarms, while Hamas says it will disarm only under a comprehensive agreement on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

In such a situation, it will certainly be a big challenge for the Peace Board to resolve these complex and sensitive issues to the satisfaction of the parties. Whether the “Peace Board” established by US President Donald Trump will be able to establish the peace in Gaza that even the United Nations has not been able to bring about, will be decided only by time. However, the prominent presence of several important Islamic countries, including Pakistan, on the Board has certainly raised hopes that Israel will not be allowed to engage in open aggression and genocide against the Palestinians as before.

Trump and Gorbachev

The law of the jungle, whose stick is its buffalo or the philosophy of might as right has been ruling the world for most of human history, but after seeing the devastating results of the two world wars in the last century, all the nations of the world had decided that they would settle their differences and disputes not by force and on the battlefield but at the negotiating table and joint efforts would be made for the development and prosperity of the entire human community.

The historic conference for this purpose was organized by the United States, which emerged as the largest global power after World War II. 80 years ago today, representatives of fifty countries in San Francisco agreed to form an international organization for the sake of world peace after about two months of deliberation from April 25 to June 26, 1945. The then US President Franklin D. Roosevelt suggested the name of this organization as the United Nations Organization. The Charter of this organization was presented to the world with the declaration that “We, the Members of the United Nations, have determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war. We will ensure the restoration of fundamental human rights and to promote respect for and dignity of human beings. We will ensure the equal rights of men and women, of nations large and small. We will create conditions in which the obligations imposed by treaties and international law can be fulfilled. In a larger atmosphere of freedom, the pace of social progress and the standard of life can be improved.” The establishment of the United Nations and then the leading role of the United States under its patronage gave it the impression of being the global standard bearer of human rights, freedom and international peace and security. It gained the position of the leader of the civilized world and, in fact, played a very valuable role in the development of the entire human community through the establishment of higher educational institutions and scientific research organizations. The full support of American governments for global health, climate change and other institutions related to human welfare established under the United Nations contributed to the well-being of people all over the world. American cooperation with the United Nations has also proved fruitful in many international conflicts. However, due to America's lack of interest in a fair settlement of the issues of Palestine and Kashmir, and its support for the occupying powers, as well as its unjustified military interventions in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, a large section of world public opinion began to describe it as an imperialist power rather than a peaceful democratic power. By using the weapon of veto in the United Nations Security Council indiscriminately and improperly, the United States adopted an attitude of supporting its promotion instead of eliminating oppression and oppression from the world, and thus badly affected the reputation of the United Nations and itself.

This behavior of American leadership is seen at new extremes today. The current President of the United States, Donald Trump, has become a god of war after claiming to end eight wars and being entitled to the Nobel Peace Prize on this basis. After the open aggression against Venezuela and the kidnapping of its leader, President Maduro, along with his wife, his open intentions to use the country's vast oil reserves for the United States indefinitely, and his declarations of aggression against several other countries after Venezuela, have taken away the air of his claims of peace friendship. Among these countries, Greenland, which is rich in rare minerals and administered by Denmark and is two thousand miles away from the United States, seems to be his first target. He is making open threats to Iran and has once again given clear indications of attacking it in collusion with Israel, apparently because Iran is a major obstacle in the path of the Greater Israel plan of the Zionist rulers who have adopted America. A few hours after the operation in Venezuela, President Trump warned Colombian President Gustavo Petro to also celebrate his chair. It should be noted that Venezuela's western neighbor Colombia is not only rich in oil reserves, but also has gold, silver, platinum, emeralds and coal mines. Like Venezuela and Colombia, Donald Trump accused Mexico of drug trafficking and said in a conversation with reporters last Sunday that it seems that something will have to be done against it. President Trump is turning global public opinion against not only himself but also his country. Instead of his country's position as the leader of the civilized world as a champion of human rights and peace and justice, Trump is proving it to be a force that imposes the law of the jungle in the world. With a recent move, he has also arranged to further solidify this impression. Yesterday, he announced the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations, including 31 United Nations organizations, including several institutions and organizations on public health, climate change, and humanitarian assistance. In this way, President Trump himself is on the path of depriving his country of the leadership and leadership of the international community, which may lead to the end of America's international importance in the next few years, just as the Soviet Union was destroyed by former Russian President Gorbachev in the last decade of the last century. If this had happened, it is quite possible that Donald Trump would earn the title of American Gorbachev in world political history.
