Gandapur returns to PTI parliamentary politics, decision to nominate provincial representative in negotiation process

Peshawar: Former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is returning to PTI parliamentary politics, it has been decided to nominate Ali Amin Gandapur as the provincial representative in the negotiation process. The statement issued after the provincial parliamentary party meeting of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that based on the opinion of the majority members of the parliamentary party, it has been decided to nominate former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur as the provincial representative in the central negotiation process. According to the parliamentary party statement, Sohail Afridi is the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while Junaid Akbar is the provincial president of the party. There was no discussion regarding the change in both positions in the previous meeting.

The statement of the meeting expressed concern over the statement and tweet of Central Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and demanded that Chairman Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan take notice of the matter. The parliamentary party also demanded that Salman Akram Raja withdraw his statement and apologize. The statement termed the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province on October 11 as unconstitutional and illegal, calling it political revenge.

The parliamentary party also expressed concern over the arrests and kidnappings of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and other party leaders and workers. The parliamentary party called on the international community to play a role in the recovery of detainees and allegedly kidnapped leaders, while appealing to the courts to ensure their recovery through immediate legal action. The statement also demanded that an effective protest plan be formulated within the framework of the constitution and law for the release of the founding chairman, his wife and other arrested party leaders. Rejecting the new administrative structure being established in tribal and some settled districts, the parliamentary party demanded its immediate withdrawal.

The declaration also opposed the attempt to impose unelected representatives through the Area Representative Development Councils. The parliamentary party agreed to join hands with other political parties and relevant stakeholders to launch a movement against the new administrative system and reiterated its commitment to continue the political, legal and democratic struggle for the constitutional and democratic rights of the province, the restoration of elected leadership and the protection of the public mandate.
