September 27 protest case, Advocate General KP's request for time for arguments rejected

ISLAMABAD: In the PTI's September 27 protest case, the Islamabad High Court rejected the request of Advocate General KP for two days to present its arguments, today all the officers including IGs, secretaries were summoned again. The 3-member bench headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar includes Justice Azam Khan and Justice Muhammad Asif, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Advocate General Islamabad Naveed Hayat Malik, IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, Motorway Police, representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan Police, while Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon was also present in the court. The petitioner's lawyer Akhtar Chheena read out the court order of the previous hearing. Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar asked the Attorney General While talking to him, he said that he was grateful to him for coming to the court on short notice due to an important and sensitive matter. The Attorney General told the court that a clear assurance was given to the Supreme Court in May 2022, but despite this, the court order was violated. The Attorney General also read out the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision and the assurance given by the PTI before the court. According to the Attorney General, in 2022, the founder of PTI had called the workers to reach D-Chowk, during which public property was damaged and the green belt in the Blue Area was set on fire. A similar situation arose in November 2024, while at that time the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa made a statement that he was coming with more preparation than in 2024. Mansoor Usman Awan told the court that information has also been taken from the Advocate General Islamabad and no application has been filed by the political party yet. He said that there are reports that this time there is more preparation than before. There is talk of coming with, including the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Attorney General took the position that the High Court can issue instructions to anyone regarding the fundamental rights of citizens coming under its jurisdiction. During the hearing, Advocate General KP said that why is this long march being considered an attack? This court has ordered a meeting with the head of the political party several times, this court’s order has not been accepted, dozens of contempt of court petitions have been filed, I need two days. The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court said that we can give you time till today, you can start the arguments, the court order of our previous hearing was covered on every channel. Advocate General KP said that I do not have time to watch TV with all the responsibilities I have, why is PTI’s long march being considered an attack? This long march is in favor of the judiciary. Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar said that thank you very much for wanting to strengthen the judiciary, is the judiciary so weak that you want to strengthen it? The judiciary is not so weak that it needs the support of a political party. ?The court has sought the record of action taken against past violators from the Advocate General KP till yesterday, rejected the request to give the Advocate General two days' time, summoned the IGs, secretaries and other officers of all the provinces again, and issued a notice that all the officers will appear today as well.
