We disagree with imposing decisions made elsewhere on Parliament, Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Isn't there terrorism in Balochistan? All the emergencies that have come are on the account of the PPP, JUI-F chief

Who spoke strongly against the army in the past? Who took the name of former Army Chief General Bajwa in rallies?

A unified national policy against terrorism should be formed, political parties should be taken into confidence by calling an in-camera session of Parliament, talking to the media

Lahore: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that this decision should be made by the parliament, who is the supreme? If it is the supreme, then let it decide, decisions should be made elsewhere and imposed on the parliament. We disagree with this, is there terrorism in Balochistan? All the emergencies that have come are in the account of the PPP. A unified national policy against terrorism should be formulated and an in-camera session of the Parliament should be called in this regard and all political parties should be taken into confidence. Without taking the people into confidence, their full participation in the war against terrorism cannot be ensured. I am loyal to the state and appreciate those who have made sacrifices for the country. However, it is my democratic right to disagree with policies. Have I spoken against the army or did Mian Nawaz Sharif himself? I have never criticized institutions but have discussed state policies.

Talking to the media, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the government and state institutions should respect the opinions of political parties and citizens instead of making fun of their sacrifices. We are not making fun of the sacrifices made for the country, but are discussing policies so that they can be reformed. He said that over the past years, 250 scholars and workers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have been martyred in terrorist incidents. Despite these sacrifices, if terrorism is increasing instead of decreasing, then it is necessary to seriously examine the reasons for this.

He raised the question that there are no terrorist incidents in Balochistan? Instead of imposing the policy unilaterally, the policy against terrorism should be formulated in consultation with all political parties. An in-camera session of the Parliament should be called to review the challenges, strategies and results facing the country so that a joint struggle can be waged against terrorism by taking the nation into confidence.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that when a person points a finger at another, the other fingers are also pointing at him. Who spoke strongly against the army in the past? Who took the name of former Army Chief General Bajwa in rallies? He said that I have never criticized military institutions, but have raised questions regarding the country's economy, investment and state policies. Why is there no investment in Pakistan while investment is happening in neighboring countries? Discussing such questions is not anti-nationalism but an attempt at reform. He said that in 2013 too, our differences had come to the fore on the issue of emergency in Balochistan and we had resigned in protest. Adopting constitutional procedures has its place, but it is also important to see whether any measure is consistent with democratic principles. He said that national consensus is necessary for an effective strategy against terrorism and the government should also listen to the suggestions of the opposition. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that a delegation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came to him with a request for mediation, after which the government delegation also contacted him and was formally invited by the Prime Minister. He participated in the negotiation process with the mandate of the opposition and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, where the demands of the parties were revealed and efforts were made to move matters forward. For progress in the negotiations, it is necessary for the parties to recognize the role of an impartial mediator.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Saudi Arabia is a reliable friend of Pakistan and has long-standing relations with it. We condemn the attack on Saudi Arabia and stand with the Saudi leadership and people. We are also with Saudi Arabia on the issue of protecting the Two Holy Mosques. He added that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is also increasing its political activities in Punjab and the participation of the people in the meetings is encouraging. A meeting will be held in Sargodha next month. He said that to address the challenge of terrorism facing the country, a common course of action in the national interest must be adopted, transcending political differences.
